Just a few years ago, if you were planning a new infrastructure deployment to support new workloads, you would have expected questions related to architecture, networking, air conditioning, server room real estate and so on. But today you shouldn’t be surprised if the discussion quickly moves towards clouds, blue skies and space. I am, of course, referring to cloud services such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure and Rackspace.

BYOD, or Bring Your Own Death as some people jokingly refer to it, has been the bane of IT administrators’ lives ever since the first iPhone was released in 2007. Simply tracking these devices can be a challenge. And many believe mobile devices are a potential security risk. Respondents to a Ponemon State of the Endpoint Report 2015, 75% of administrators believe their mobile endpoints have been the target of malware over the past 12 months. But it doesn't have to be that way.

Why is it that 35% of all reported breaches in 2014 were in higher education?

This week in Washington, there have been a lot of calls for the resignation of Katherine Archuleta, the Director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). She was at the helm when the breach of millions of government personnel records occurred, so some say that ultimately she should be responsible. President Obama has the final say as to whether she keeps her job, and so far he has stood by his appointee. Before any decisions are made about her fate, we should consider all aspects of the breach.
