Tenable Network Security, Inc., a leading developer of security management solutions and creator of the popular and award-winning Nessus vulnerability scanner, today announced the general availability of its sensitive data discovery capabilities for Nessus 3 that enable organizations to identify confidential data at rest. Tenable’s Nessus 3 provides consultants, managed security services providers and IT organizations an agent-less, cost-effective capability to identify and report on systems with sensitive data, such as credit cards numbers and Social Security numbers, by actively scanning hard drive contents.
There have been many publicized cases of financial, academic, federal and commercial institution’s systems being compromised and having large volumes of customer credit cards, social security numbers, addresses and phone numbers stolen. In response to the ever-increasing set of systems to audit, Tenable created a set of configurable content checks to help organizations discover and document systems with sensitive data so they can better mitigate their exposure to a potential breach.
“We have extended Nessus’ capability to identify sensitive data at rest to better prepare IT organizations before a threat becomes real. In addition, we believe that this capability will further arm consultants and other service providers with a cost effective tool to enhance the value of their services to their clients,” explains Ron Gula, CEO of Tenable Network Security.
The ability to scan for sensitive data with Nessus is only available to Nessus 3 users that subscribe to Tenable’s ProfessionalFeed. This annual subscription costs $1,200 and includes the latest vulnerability checks, technical support and best-practice system configuration auditing (as recommended by the NSA, CERT and NIST).
