net/ipv6/addrconf.c in the IPv6 stack in the Linux kernel before 4.0 does not validate attempted changes to the MTU value, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (packet loss) via a value that is (1) smaller than the minimum compliant value or (2) larger than the MTU of an interface, as demonstrated by a Router Advertisement (RA) message that is not validated by a daemon, a different vulnerability than CVE-2015-0272. NOTE: the scope of CVE-2015-0272 is limited to the NetworkManager product.

According to the versions of the kernel packages installed, the EulerOS Virtualization for ARM 64 installation on the remote host is affected by the following vulnerabilities :

  - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's perf     subsystem retrieved userlevel stack traces on PowerPC     systems. A local, unprivileged user could use this flaw     to cause a denial of service on the system by creating     a special stack layout that would force the     perf_callchain_user_64() function into an infinite     loop.(CVE-2015-6526i1/4%0

  - A vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel. Payloads     of NM entries are not supposed to contain NUL. When     such entry is processed, only the part prior to the     first NUL goes into the concatenation (i.e. the     directory entry name being encoded by a bunch of NM     entries). The process stops when the amount collected     so far + the claimed amount in the current NM entry     exceed 254. However, the value returned as the total     length is the sum of *claimed* sizes, not the actual     amount collected. And that's what will be passed to     readdir() callback as the name length - 8Kb
    __copy_to_user() from a buffer allocated by

  - The mincore() implementation in mm/mincore.c in the     Linux kernel through 4.19.13 allowed local attackers to     observe page cache access patterns of other processes     on the same system, potentially allowing sniffing of     secret information. Limited remote exploitation may     be possible, as demonstrated by latency differences in     accessing public files from an Apache HTTP     Server.(CVE-2019-5489i1/4%0

  - It was found that the espfix functionality could be     bypassed by installing a 16-bit RW data segment into     GDT instead of LDT (which espfix checks), and using     that segment on the stack.   - An issue was discovered in the btrfs filesystem code in     the Linux kernel. An out-of-bounds access is possible     in write_extent_buffer() when mounting and operating a     crafted btrfs image due to a lack of verification at     mount time within the btrfs_read_block_groups() in     fs/btrfs/extent-tree.c function.   - kernel/bpf/verifier.c in the Linux kernel through     4.14.8 mishandles states_equal comparisons between the     pointer data type and the UNKNOWN_VALUE data type,     which allows local users to obtain potentially     sensitive address information, aka a 'pointer     leak.'(CVE-2017-17864i1/4%0

  - drivers/hid/hid-lenovo-tpkbd.c in the Human Interface     Device (HID) subsystem in the Linux kernel through     3.11, when CONFIG_HID_LENOVO_TPKBD is enabled, allows     physically proximate attackers to cause a denial of     service (heap-based out-of-bounds write) via a crafted     device.(CVE-2013-2894i1/4%0

  - Memory leak in the sas_smp_get_phy_events function in     drivers/scsi/libsas/sas_expander.c in the Linux kernel     allows local users to cause a denial of service (kernel     memory exhaustion) via multiple read accesses to files     in the /sys/class/sas_phy directory.(CVE-2018-7757i1/4%0

  - It was found that the original fix for CVE-2016-6786     was incomplete. There exist a race between two     concurrent sys_perf_event_open() calls when both try     and move the same pre-existing software group into a     hardware context.(CVE-2017-6001i1/4%0

  - In the Linux kernel before 4.20.12,     net/ipv4/netfilter/nf_nat_snmp_basic_main.c in the SNMP     NAT module has insufficient ASN.1 length checks (aka an     array index error), making out-of-bounds read and write     operations possible, leading to an OOPS or local     privilege escalation.   - An information leak flaw was found in the way the Linux     kernel's Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA)     implementation handled access of the user control's     state. A local, privileged user could use this flaw to     leak kernel memory to user space.(CVE-2014-4652i1/4%0

  - A flaw was found that the vfs_rename() function did not     detect hard links on overlayfs. A local, unprivileged     user could use the rename syscall on overlayfs on top     of xfs to crash the system.(CVE-2016-6198i1/4%0

  - It was found that when file permissions were modified     via chmod and the user modifying them was not in the     owning group or capable of CAP_FSETID, the setgid bit     would be cleared. Setting a POSIX ACL via setxattr sets     the file permissions as well as the new ACL, but     doesn't clear the setgid bit in a similar way. This     could allow a local user to gain group privileges via     certain setgid applications.(CVE-2016-7097i1/4%0

  - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's Crypto     subsystem handled automatic loading of kernel modules.
    A local user could use this flaw to load any installed     kernel module, and thus increase the attack surface of     the running kernel.(CVE-2014-9644i1/4%0

  - An arbitrary memory r/w access issue was found in the     Linux kernel compiled with the eBPF bpf(2) system call     (CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL) support. The issue could occur due     to calculation errors in the eBPF verifier module,     triggered by user supplied malicious BPF program. An     unprivileged user could use this flaw to escalate their     privileges on a system. Setting parameter     'kernel.unprivileged_bpf_disabled=1' prevents such     privilege escalation by restricting access to bpf(2)     call.(CVE-2017-16995i1/4%0

  - A flaw was found in the implementation of associative     arrays where the add_key systemcall and KEYCTL_UPDATE     operations allowed for a NULL payload with a nonzero     length. When accessing the payload within this length     parameters value, an unprivileged user could trivially     cause a NULL pointer dereference (kernel     oops).(CVE-2017-15274i1/4%0

  - A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's keyring handling     code: the key_reject_and_link() function could be     forced to free an arbitrary memory block. An attacker     could use this flaw to trigger a use-after-free     condition on the system, potentially allowing for     privilege escalation.(CVE-2016-4470i1/4%0

  - A flaw was found in the way certain interfaces of the     Linux kernel's Infiniband subsystem used write() as     bi-directional ioctl() replacement, which could lead to     insufficient memory security checks when being invoked     using the splice() system call. A local unprivileged     user on a system with either Infiniband hardware     present or RDMA Userspace Connection Manager Access     module explicitly loaded, could use this flaw to     escalate their privileges on the     system.(CVE-2016-4565i1/4%0

  - It was found that the Linux kernel's IPv6 network stack     did not properly validate the value of the MTU variable     when it was set. A remote attacker could potentially     use this flaw to disrupt a target system's networking     (packet loss) by setting an invalid MTU value, for     example, via a NetworkManager daemon that is processing     router advertisement packets running on the target     system.(CVE-2015-8215i1/4%0

  - A NULL pointer dereference flaw was found in the SCTP     implementation. A local user could use this flaw to     cause a denial of service on the system by triggering a     kernel panic when creating multiple sockets in parallel     while the system did not have the SCTP module     loaded.(CVE-2015-5283)

  - It was found that the x86 ISA (Instruction Set     Architecture) is prone to a denial of service attack     inside a virtualized environment in the form of an     infinite loop in the microcode due to the way     (sequential) delivering of benign exceptions such as     #AC (alignment check exception) is handled. A     privileged user inside a guest could use this flaw to     create denial of service conditions on the host     kernel.(CVE-2015-5307)

  - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's     networking implementation handled UDP packets with     incorrect checksum values. A remote attacker could     potentially use this flaw to trigger an infinite loop     in the kernel, resulting in a denial of service on the     system, or cause a denial of service in applications     using the edge triggered epoll     functionality.(CVE-2015-5364)

  - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's     networking implementation handled UDP packets with     incorrect checksum values. A remote attacker could     potentially use this flaw to trigger an infinite loop     in the kernel, resulting in a denial of service on the     system, or cause a denial of service in applications     using the edge triggered epoll     functionality.(CVE-2015-5366)

  - A cross-boundary flaw was discovered in the Linux     kernel software raid driver. The driver accessed a     disabled bitmap where only the first byte of the buffer     was initialized to zero. This meant that the rest of     the request (up to 4095 bytes) was left and copied into     user space. An attacker could use this flaw to read     private information from user space that would not     otherwise have been accessible.(CVE-2015-5697)

  - An integer-overflow vulnerability was found in the scsi     block-request handling code in function start_req(). A     local attacker could use specially crafted IOV requests     to overflow a counter used in bio_map_user_iov()'s page     calculation, and write past the end of the array that     contains kernel-page pointers.(CVE-2015-5707)

  - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's vhost     driver treated userspace provided log file descriptor     when processing the VHOST_SET_LOG_FD ioctl command. The     file descriptor was never released and continued to     consume kernel memory. A privileged local user with     access to the /dev/vhost-net files could use this flaw     to create a denial-of-service attack.(CVE-2015-6252)

  - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's perf     subsystem retrieved userlevel stack traces on PowerPC     systems. A local, unprivileged user could use this flaw     to cause a denial of service on the system by creating     a special stack layout that would force the     perf_callchain_user_64() function into an infinite     loop.(CVE-2015-6526)

  - A NULL-pointer dereference vulnerability was discovered     in the Linux kernel. The kernel's Reliable Datagram     Sockets (RDS) protocol implementation did not verify     that an underlying transport existed before creating a     connection to a remote server.   - Multiple race conditions in the Advanced Union     Filesystem (aufs) aufs3-mmap.patch and aufs4-mmap.patch     patches for the Linux kernel 3.x and 4.x allow local     users to cause a denial of service (use-after-free and     BUG) or possibly gain privileges via a (1) madvise or     (2) msync system call, related to mm/madvise.c and     mm/msync.c.(CVE-2015-7312)

  - A divide-by-zero flaw was discovered in the Linux     kernel built with KVM virtualization     support(CONFIG_KVM). The flaw occurs in the KVM     module's Programmable Interval Timer(PIT) emulation,     when PIT counters for channel 1 or 2 are set to zero(0)     and a privileged user inside the guest attempts to read     these counters. A privileged guest user with access to     PIT I/O ports could exploit this issue to crash the     host kernel (denial of service).(CVE-2015-7513)

  - An out-of-bounds memory access flaw was found in the     Linux kernel's aiptek USB tablet driver (aiptek_probe()     function in drivers/input/tablet/aiptek.c). The driver     assumed that the interface always had at least one     endpoint. By using a specially crafted USB device with     no endpoints on one of its interfaces, an unprivileged     user with physical access to the system could trigger a     kernel NULL pointer dereference, causing the system to     panic.(CVE-2015-7515)

  - A NULL-pointer dereference flaw was found in the     kernel, which is caused by a race between revoking a     user-type key and reading from it. The issue could be     triggered by an unprivileged user with a local account,     causing the kernel to crash (denial of     service).(CVE-2015-7550)

  - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel visor     driver handles certain invalid USB device descriptors.
    The driver assumes that the device always has at least     one bulk OUT endpoint. By using a specially crafted USB     device (without a bulk OUT endpoint), an unprivileged     user with physical access could trigger a kernel     NULL-pointer dereference and cause a system panic     (denial of service).(CVE-2015-7566)

  - A race condition flaw was found in the way the Linux     kernel's IPC subsystem initialized certain fields in an     IPC object structure that were later used for     permission checking before inserting the object into a     globally visible list. A local, unprivileged user could     potentially use this flaw to elevate their privileges     on the system.(CVE-2015-7613)

  - A flaw was discovered in the Linux kernel where issuing     certain ioctl() -s commands to the '/dev/ppp' device     file could lead to a NULL pointer dereference. A     privileged user could use this flaw to cause a kernel     crash and denial of service.(CVE-2015-7799)

  - It was found that the Linux kernel's keys subsystem did     not correctly garbage collect uninstantiated keyrings.
    A local attacker could use this flaw to crash the     system or, potentially, escalate their privileges on     the system.(CVE-2015-7872)

  - A denial of service flaw was discovered in the Linux     kernel, where a race condition caused a NULL pointer     dereference in the RDS socket-creation code. A local     attacker could use this flaw to create a situation in     which a NULL pointer crashed the kernel.(CVE-2015-7990)

  - CVE-2015-8215: net/ipv6/addrconf.c in the IPv6 stack in     the Linux kernel did not validate attempted changes to     the MTU value, which allowed context-dependent attackers     to cause a denial of service (packet loss) via a value     that is (1) smaller than the minimum compliant value or     (2) larger than the MTU of an interface, as demonstrated     by a Router Advertisement (RA) message that is not     validated by a daemon, a different vulnerability than     CVE-2015-0272. (bsc#955354)

  - CVE-2015-5156: The virtnet_probe function in     drivers/net/virtio_net.c in the Linux kernel attempted     to support a FRAGLIST feature without proper memory     allocation, which allowed guest OS users to cause a     denial of service (buffer overflow and memory     corruption) via a crafted sequence of fragmented packets     (bnc#940776).

  - CVE-2015-7872: The key_gc_unused_keys function in     security/keys/gc.c in the Linux kernel allowed local     users to cause a denial of service (OOPS) via crafted     keyctl commands (bnc#951440).

  - CVE-2015-7799: The slhc_init function in     drivers/net/slip/slhc.c in the Linux kernel did not     ensure that certain slot numbers are valid, which     allowed local users to cause a denial of service (NULL     pointer dereference and system crash) via a crafted     PPPIOCSMAXCID ioctl call (bnc#949936).

  - CVE-2015-2925: The prepend_path function in fs/dcache.c     in the Linux kernel did not properly handle rename     actions inside a bind mount, which allowed local users     to bypass an intended container protection mechanism by     renaming a directory, related to a 'double-chroot attack     (bnc#926238).

  - CVE-2015-7990: RDS: Verify the underlying transport     exists before creating a connection, preventing possible     DoS (bsc#952384).

The SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 kernel was updated to 3.12.51 to receive various security and bugfixes.

  - CVE-2015-8104: The KVM subsystem in the Linux kernel     allowed guest OS users to cause a denial of service     (host OS panic or hang) by triggering many #DB (aka     Debug) exceptions, related to svm.c (bnc#954404).

  - CVE-2015-5307: The KVM subsystem in the Linux kernel     allowed guest OS users to cause a denial of service     (host OS panic or hang) by triggering many #AC (aka     Alignment Check) exceptions, related to svm.c and vmx.c     (bnc#953527).

  - CVE-2015-7990: RDS: There was no verification that an     underlying transport exists when creating a connection,     causing usage of a NULL pointer (bsc#952384).

  - CVE-2015-7872: The key_gc_unused_keys function in     security/keys/gc.c in the Linux kernel allowed local     users to cause a denial of service (OOPS) via crafted     keyctl commands (bnc#951440).

Updated kernel packages that fix multiple security issues, address several hundred bugs, and add numerous enhancements are now available as part of the ongoing support and maintenance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 7. This is the second regular update.

The kernel packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux operating system.

* A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's file system implementation handled rename operations in which the source was inside and the destination was outside of a bind mount. A privileged user inside a container could use this flaw to escape the bind mount and, potentially, escalate their privileges on the system.

* A race condition flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's IPC subsystem initialized certain fields in an IPC object structure that were later used for permission checking before inserting the object into a globally visible list. A local, unprivileged user could potentially use this flaw to elevate their privileges on the system.

* It was found that reporting emulation failures to user space could lead to either a local (CVE-2014-7842) or a L2->L1 (CVE-2010-5313) denial of service. In the case of a local denial of service, an attacker must have access to the MMIO area or be able to access an I/O port. (CVE-2010-5313, CVE-2014-7842, Moderate)

* A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's KVM subsystem handled non-canonical addresses when emulating instructions that change the RIP (for example, branches or calls). A guest user with access to an I/O or MMIO region could use this flaw to crash the guest.

* It was found that the Linux kernel memory resource controller's (memcg) handling of OOM (out of memory) conditions could lead to deadlocks. An attacker could use this flaw to lock up the system.

* A race condition flaw was found between the chown and execve system calls. A local, unprivileged user could potentially use this flaw to escalate their privileges on the system. (CVE-2015-3339, Moderate)

* A flaw was discovered in the way the Linux kernel's TTY subsystem handled the tty shutdown phase. A local, unprivileged user could use this flaw to cause a denial of service on the system. (CVE-2015-4170, Moderate)

* A NULL pointer dereference flaw was found in the SCTP implementation. A local user could use this flaw to cause a denial of service on the system by triggering a kernel panic when creating multiple sockets in parallel while the system did not have the SCTP module loaded. (CVE-2015-5283, Moderate)

* A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's perf subsystem retrieved userlevel stack traces on PowerPC systems. A local, unprivileged user could use this flaw to cause a denial of service on the system. (CVE-2015-6526, Moderate)

* A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's Crypto subsystem handled automatic loading of kernel modules. A local user could use this flaw to load any installed kernel module, and thus increase the attack surface of the running kernel. (CVE-2013-7421, CVE-2014-9644, Low)

* An information leak flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel changed certain segment registers and thread-local storage (TLS) during a context switch. A local, unprivileged user could use this flaw to leak the user space TLS base address of an arbitrary process.

* It was found that the Linux kernel KVM subsystem's sysenter instruction emulation was not sufficient. An unprivileged guest user could use this flaw to escalate their privileges by tricking the hypervisor to emulate a SYSENTER instruction in 16-bit mode, if the guest OS did not initialize the SYSENTER model-specific registers (MSRs). Note: Certified guest operating systems for Red Hat Enterprise Linux with KVM do initialize the SYSENTER MSRs and are thus not vulnerable to this issue when running on a KVM hypervisor.

* A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel handled the securelevel functionality after performing a kexec operation. A local attacker could use this flaw to bypass the security mechanism of the securelevel/secureboot combination. (CVE-2015-7837, Low)

The remote Oracle Linux 7 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ELSA-2015-2152 advisory.

  - The Crypto API in the Linux kernel before 3.18.5 allows local users to load arbitrary kernel modules via a     bind system call for an AF_ALG socket with a module name in the salg_name field, a different vulnerability     than CVE-2014-9644. (CVE-2013-7421)

  - The Crypto API in the Linux kernel before 3.18.5 allows local users to load arbitrary kernel modules via a     bind system call for an AF_ALG socket with a parenthesized module template expression in the salg_name     field, as demonstrated by the vfat(aes) expression, a different vulnerability than CVE-2013-7421.
    (CVE-2014-9644)

  - The memory resource controller (aka memcg) in the Linux kernel allows local users to cause a denial of     service (deadlock) by spawning new processes within a memory-constrained cgroup. (CVE-2014-8171)

  - The __switch_to function in arch/x86/kernel/process_64.c in the Linux kernel through 3.18.1 does not     ensure that Thread Local Storage (TLS) descriptors are loaded before proceeding with other steps, which     makes it easier for local users to bypass the ASLR protection mechanism via a crafted application that     reads a TLS base address. (CVE-2014-9419)

  - The em_sysenter function in arch/x86/kvm/emulate.c in the Linux kernel before 3.18.5, when the guest OS     lacks SYSENTER MSR initialization, allows guest OS users to gain guest OS privileges or cause a denial of     service (guest OS crash) by triggering use of a 16-bit code segment for emulation of a SYSENTER     instruction. (CVE-2015-0239)

  - Race condition in the prepare_binprm function in fs/exec.c in the Linux kernel before 3.19.6 allows local     users to gain privileges by executing a setuid program at a time instant when a chown to root is in     progress, and the ownership is changed but the setuid bit is not yet stripped. (CVE-2015-3339)

  - Race condition in arch/x86/kvm/x86.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.38 allows L2 guest OS users to cause a     denial of service (L1 guest OS crash) via a crafted instruction that triggers an L2 emulation failure     report, a similar issue to CVE-2014-7842. (CVE-2010-5313)

  - arch/x86/kvm/emulate.c in the KVM subsystem in the Linux kernel through 3.17.2 does not properly perform     RIP changes, which allows guest OS users to cause a denial of service (guest OS crash) via a crafted     application. (CVE-2014-3647)

  - Race condition in arch/x86/kvm/x86.c in the Linux kernel before 3.17.4 allows guest OS users to cause a     denial of service (guest OS crash) via a crafted application that performs an MMIO transaction or a PIO     transaction to trigger a guest userspace emulation error report, a similar issue to CVE-2010-5313.

  - Race condition in the ldsem_cmpxchg function in drivers/tty/tty_ldsem.c in the Linux kernel before     3.13-rc4-next-20131218 allows local users to cause a denial of service (ldsem_down_read and     ldsem_down_write deadlock) by establishing a new tty thread during shutdown of a previous tty thread.

  - The sctp_init function in net/sctp/protocol.c in the Linux kernel before 4.2.3 has an incorrect sequence     of protocol-initialization steps, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (panic or memory     corruption) by creating SCTP sockets before all of the steps have finished.   - The perf_callchain_user_64 function in arch/powerpc/perf/callchain.c in the Linux kernel before 4.0.2 on     ppc64 platforms allows local users to cause a denial of service (infinite loop) via a deep 64-bit     userspace backtrace. (CVE-2015-6526)

  - Race condition in the IPC object implementation in the Linux kernel through 4.2.3 allows local users to     gain privileges by triggering an ipc_addid call that leads to uid and gid comparisons against     uninitialized data, related to msg.c, shm.c, and util.c. (CVE-2015-7613)

  - The Linux kernel, as used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, kernel-rt, and Enterprise MRG 2 and when booted     with UEFI Secure Boot enabled, allows local users to bypass intended securelevel/secureboot restrictions     by leveraging improper handling of secure_boot flag across kexec reboot. (CVE-2015-7837)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Several vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel that may lead to a privilege escalation or denial of service.

  - CVE-2015-8215     It was discovered that NetworkManager would set IPv6     MTUs based on the values received in IPv6 RAs (Router     Advertisements), without sufficiently validating these     values. A remote attacker could exploit this attack to     disable IPv6 connectivity. This has been mitigated by     adding validation in the kernel.

  - CVE-2015-2925     Jann Horn discovered that when a subdirectory of a     filesystem is bind-mounted into a container that has its     own user and mount namespaces, a process with     CAP_SYS_ADMIN capability in the user namespace can     access files outside of the subdirectory. The default     Debian configuration mitigated this as it does not allow     unprivileged users to create new user namespaces.

  - CVE-2015-5156     Jason Wang discovered that when a virtio_net device is     connected to a bridge in the same VM, a series of TCP     packets forwarded through the bridge may cause a heap     buffer overflow. A remote attacker could use this to     cause a denial of service (crash) or possibly for     privilege escalation.

  - CVE-2015-6252     Michael S. Tsirkin of Red Hat Engineering found that the     vhost driver leaked file descriptors passed to it with     the VHOST_SET_LOG_FD ioctl command. A privileged local     user with access to the /dev/vhost-net file, either     directly or via libvirt, could use this to cause a     denial of service (hang or crash).

  - CVE-2015-6937     It was found that the Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS)     protocol implementation did not verify that an     underlying transport exists when creating a connection.
    Depending on how a local RDS application initialised its     sockets, a remote attacker might be able to cause a     denial of service (crash) by sending a crafted packet.

  - CVE-2015-7312     Xavier Chantry discovered that the patch provided by the     aufs project to correct behaviour of memory-mapped files     from an aufs mount introduced a race condition in the     msync() system call. Ben Hutchings found that it also     introduced a similar bug in the madvise_remove()     function. A local attacker could use this to cause a     denial of service or possibly for privilege escalation.
