Synopsis

The CentOS Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The CentOS Linux 8 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the TuxCare CENTOS-STREAM8:CLSA-2024:1727815919 advisory.

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Input: elantech - fix stack out of bound access in elantech_change_report_id() The array param[] in elantech_change_report_id() must be at least 3 bytes, because elantech_read_reg_params() is calling ps2_command() with PSMOUSE_CMD_GETINFO, that is going to access 3 bytes from param[], but it's defined in the stack as an array of 2 bytes, therefore we have a potential stack out-of-bounds access here, also confirmed by KASAN: [ 6.512374] BUG: KASAN:

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: driver core: auxiliary bus: Fix memory leak when driver_register() fail If driver_register() returns with error we need to free the memory allocated for auxdrv->driver.name before returning from __auxiliary_driver_register() (CVE-2021-47287)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ACPI: fix NULL pointer dereference Commit 71f642833284 (ACPI: utils: Fix reference counting in for_each_acpi_dev_match()) started doing acpi_dev_put() on a pointer that was possibly NULL. That fails miserably, because that helper inline function is not set up to handle that case. Just make acpi_dev_put() silently accept a NULL pointer, rather than calling down to put_device() with an invalid offset off that NULL pointer. (CVE-2021-47289)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: watchdog: Fix possible use-after-free by calling del_timer_sync() This driver's remove path calls del_timer(). However, that function does not wait until the timer handler finishes. This means that the timer handler may still be running after the driver's remove function has finished, which would result in a use-after-free. Fix by calling del_timer_sync(), which makes sure the timer handler has finished, and unable to re-schedule itself.
(CVE-2021-47321)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fbmem: Do not delete the mode that is still in use The execution of fb_delete_videomode() is not based on the result of the previous fbcon_mode_deleted(). As a result, the mode is directly deleted, regardless of whether it is still in use, which may cause UAF. ================================================================== BUG: KASAN: use- after-free in fb_mode_is_equal+0x36e/0x5e0 \ drivers/video/fbdev/core/modedb.c:924 Read of size 4 at addr ffff88807e0ddb1c by task syz-executor.0/18962 CPU: 2 PID: 18962 Comm: syz-executor.0 Not tainted 5.10.45-rc1+ #3 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS ...
