MiracleLinux 3 : php-5.1.6-27.3.0.1.AXS3 (AXSA:2010-502:05)

high Nessus Plugin ID 284177

Synopsis

The remote MiracleLinux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote MiracleLinux 3 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the AXSA:2010-502:05 advisory.

PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. PHP attempts to make it easy for developers to write dynamically generated webpages. PHP also offers built-in database integration for several commercial and non-commercial database management systems, so writing a database-enabled webpage with PHP is fairly simple. The most common use of PHP coding is probably as a replacement for CGI scripts. The mod_php module enables the Apache Web server to understand and process the embedded PHP language in Web pages.
Security issues fixed with this release:
CVE-2009-5016 Integer overflow in the xml_utf8_decode function in ext/xml/xml.c in PHP before 5.2.11 makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass cross-site scripting (XSS) and SQL injection protection mechanisms via a crafted string that uses overlong UTF-8 encoding, a different vulnerability than CVE-2010-3870.
CVE-2010-0397 The xmlrpc extension in PHP 5.3.1 does not properly handle a missing methodName element in the first argument to the xmlrpc_decode_request function, which allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and application crash) and possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted argument.
CVE-2010-1128 The Linear Congruential Generator (LCG) in PHP before 5.2.13 does not provide the expected entropy, which makes it easier for context-dependent attackers to guess values that were intended to be unpredictable, as demonstrated by session cookies generated by using the uniqid function.
CVE-2010-1917 Stack consumption vulnerability in PHP 5.2 through 5.2.13 and 5.3 through 5.3.2 allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (PHP crash) via a crafted first argument to the fnmatch function, as demonstrated using a long string.
CVE-2010-2531 The var_export function in PHP 5.2 before 5.2.14 and 5.3 before 5.3.3 flushes the output buffer to the user when certain fatal errors occur, even if display_errors is off, which allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information by causing the application to exceed limits for memory, execution time, or recursion.
CVE-2010-3065 The default session serializer in PHP 5.2 through 5.2.13 and 5.3 through 5.3.2 does not properly handle the PS_UNDEF_MARKER marker, which allows context-dependent attackers to modify arbitrary session variables via a crafted session variable name.
CVE-2010-3870 The utf8_decode function in PHP before 5.3.4 does not properly handle non-shortest form UTF-8 encoding and ill-formed subsequences in UTF-8 data, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass cross-site scripting (XSS) and SQL injection protection mechanisms via a crafted string.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the MiracleLinux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution
