medium Nessus Plugin ID 28284
New! Plugin Severity Now Using CVSS v3

The calculated severity for Plugins has been updated to use CVSS v3 by default. Plugins that do not have a CVSS v3 score will fall back to CVSS v2 for calculating severity. Severity display preferences can be toggled in the settings dropdown.

Synopsis

The remote openSUSE host is missing a security update.

Description

Specially crafted regular expressions could lead to a buffer overflow in the pcre library. Applications using pcre to process regular expressions from untrusted sources could therefore potentially be exploited by attackers to execute arbitrary code (CVE-2006-7224, CVE-2006-7225, CVE-2006-7226, CVE-2007-1659, CVE-2007-1660).

Solution

Update the affected pcre packages.
