Slackware Linux 15.0 / current nghttp2 Vulnerability (SSA:2023-284-02)

high Nessus Plugin ID 182878

Synopsis

The remote Slackware Linux host is missing a security update to nghttp2.

Description

The version of nghttp2 installed on the remote host is prior to 1.57.0. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SSA:2023-284-02 advisory.

- The HTTP/2 protocol allows a denial of service (server resource consumption) because request cancellation can reset many streams quickly, as exploited in the wild in August through October 2023. (CVE-2023-44487)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the affected nghttp2 package.
