In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/damon/sysfs: fix use-after-free in state_show() state_show() reads kdamond->damon_ctx without holding damon_sysfs_lock. This allows a use-after-free race: CPU 0 CPU 1 ----- ----- state_show() damon_sysfs_turn_damon_on() ctx = kdamond->damon_ctx; mutex_lock(&damon_sysfs_lock); damon_destroy_ctx(kdamond->damon_ctx); kdamond->damon_ctx = NULL; mutex_unlock(&damon_sysfs_lock); damon_is_running(ctx); /* ctx is freed */ mutex_lock(&ctx->kdamond_lock); /* UAF */ (The race can also occur with damon_sysfs_kdamonds_rm_dirs() and damon_sysfs_kdamond_release(), which free or replace the context under damon_sysfs_lock.) Fix by taking damon_sysfs_lock before dereferencing the context, mirroring the locking used in pid_show(). The bug has existed since state_show() first accessed kdamond->damon_ctx.

    VMSCAPE is a vulnerability that exploits insufficient branch predictor isolation between a guest and a     userspace hypervisor (like QEMU). Existing mitigations already protect kernel/KVM from a malicious guest.
    Userspace can additionally be protected by flushing the branch predictors after a VMexit.

    Since it is the userspace that consumes the poisoned branch predictors, conditionally issue an IBPB after     a VMexit and before returning to userspace. Workloads that frequently switch between hypervisor and     userspace will incur the most overhead from the new IBPB.

    This new IBPB is not integrated with the existing IBPB sites. For instance, a task can use the existing     speculation control prctl() to get an IBPB at context switch time. With this implementation, the IBPB is     doubled up: one at context switch and another before running userspace.     Several vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel that     may lead to a privilege escalation, denial of service or information     leaks.

    For Debian 11 bullseye, these problems have been fixed in version     6.1.153-1~deb11u1.  Starting with this version, modules are signed     with an ephemeral key on all architectures, and the broken pktcdvd     driver is disabled.  This version additionally includes many more bug     fixes from stable updates 6.1.141-6.1.153.

  - mm/damon/sysfs: fix use-after-free in state_show() state_show() reads kdamond->damon_ctx without holding     damon_sysfs_lock. This allows a use-after-free race: CPU 0 CPU 1 ----- ----- state_show()     damon_sysfs_turn_damon_on() ctx = kdamond->damon_ctx; mutex_lock(&damon_sysfs_lock);
    damon_destroy_ctx(kdamond->damon_ctx); kdamond->damon_ctx = NULL; mutex_unlock(&damon_sysfs_lock);
    damon_is_running(ctx); /* ctx is freed */ mutex_lock(&ctx->kdamond_lock); /* UAF */ (The race can also     occur with damon_sysfs_kdamonds_rm_dirs() and damon_sysfs_kdamond_release(), which free or replace the     context under damon_sysfs_lock.) Fix by taking damon_sysfs_lock before dereferencing the context,     mirroring the locking used in pid_show(). The bug has existed since state_show() first accessed     kdamond->damon_ctx.
