An issue was discovered in ssl.c in Axel before 2.17.8. The TLS implementation lacks hostname verification.

There are packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability referenced in the following CVE:

The remote Ubuntu 18.04 ESM / 20.04 ESM host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-4872-1 advisory.

    It was discovered that Axel did not properly verify the certificates for hostnames. An attacker could use     this vulnerability to impersonate another server and obtain sensitive information.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

This update for axel fixes the following issues :
