CRLF injection vulnerability in IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 6.1 through 6.1.0.47, 7.0 before 7.0.0.39, 8.0 before 8.0.0.12, and 8.5 before 8.5.5.8 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary HTTP headers and conduct HTTP response splitting attacks via a crafted URL.

The IBM WebSphere Application Server running on the remote host is version 6.1.0.x through 6.1.0.47, 7.0.0.x prior to 7.0.0.39, 8.0.0.x prior to 8.0.0.12, or 8.5.0.x prior to 8.5.5.8. It is, therefore, affected by an HTTP response splitting vulnerability. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, by using a specially crafted URL to cause the server to return a split response once the URL is clicked. The attacker could then perform further attacks.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

The remote host appears to be running IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.5 prior to 8.5.5.8.  Such versions are potentially affected by multiple issues :

 - A flaw exists that is triggered as CRLF (Carriage Return and Line Feed) character sequences are not properly sanitized before being included in HTTP responses.  This allows a remote attacker to inject additional headers into responses to conduct HTTP response splitting attacks.
 - An unspecified flaw exists in the edge component caching proxy that could cause weaker than intended encryption, which may potentially allow an authenticated remote attacker to more easily decrypt information. 

The remote host appears to be running IBM WebSphere Application Server 8.0 prior to 8.0.0.12.  Such versions are potentially affected by multiple issues :

 - A flaw exists that is triggered when handling a connect call that is interrupted.  This may allow a remote attacker to crash the plug-in component and cause a partial denial of service.
 - An overflow condition exists that is triggered as certain input is not properly validated.  This may allow an authenticated remote attacker to cause a buffer overflow, potentially allowing them to bypass security restrictions and disclose sensitive information.

The remote host appears to be running IBM WebSphere Application Server 7.0 prior to 7.0.0.39. Such versions are potentially affected by multiple issues :

 - A flaw exists that is triggered as deployment descriptor security constraints are combined with 'ServletSecurity' annotations on a servlet. This may allow a remote attacker to gain elevated privileges. (CVE-2014-8890)
 - A security feature bypass vulnerability, known as FREAK (Factoring attack on RSA-EXPORT Keys), exists in the IBM Global Security Kit (GSKit) due to the support of weak EXPORT_RSA cipher suites with keys less than or equal to 512 bits.  A man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacker may be able to downgrade the SSL/TLS connection to use EXPORT_RSA cipher suites which can be factored in a short amount of time, allowing the attacker to intercept and decrypt the traffic.
