WordPress 4.7.x < 4.7.38 Multiple Vulnerabilities

medium Web App Scanning Plugin ID 115680

Synopsis

WordPress 4.7.x < 4.7.38 Multiple Vulnerabilities

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the version of WordPress installed on the remote host is missing a security update. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

- A stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists on the comments administration page, exploitable via pending comments.

- A denial of service vulnerability exists in the WP_Http::make_absolute_url() method.

- A second-order SQL injection vulnerability exists in the WordPress WXR export.

- A privilege escalation weakness allows users with the Author role to sticky posts.

- An information disclosure vulnerability allows unauthenticated access to comments on private and unpublished posts. (CVE-2026-66666)

- A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in Imgur embeds.

- Forgeable parameters passed to the {status}_{type} hook can lead to an action name collision.

Note that the scanner has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to WordPress version 4.7.38 or later.
