Apache Tomcat 9.0.0-M1 < 9.0.83 Request Smuggling

high Web App Scanning Plugin ID 114120

Synopsis

Apache Tomcat 9.0.0-M1 < 9.0.83 Request Smuggling

Description

The version of Apache Tomcat installed on the remote host is 8.5.x to 8.5.95, 9.0.0-M1 to 9.0.82 or 10.1.0-M1 to 10.1.15. It is, therefore, affected by a request smuggling vulnerability. Tomcat did not correctly parse HTTP trailer headers. A specially crafted trailer header that exceeded the header size limit could cause Tomcat to treat a single request as multiple requests leading to the possibility of request smuggling when behind a reverse proxy.

Note that the scanner has not attempted to exploit these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Apache Tomcat version 9.0.83 or later.
