WP Data Access Plugin for WordPress < 5.3.8 Privilege Escalation

high Web App Scanning Plugin ID 114024

Synopsis

WP Data Access Plugin for WordPress < 5.3.8 Privilege Escalation

Description

The WordPress WP Data Access Plugin installed on the remote host is affected by a Privilege Escalation vulnerability that makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with minimal permissions such as a subscriber, to modify their user role by supplying the wpda_role parameter during a profile update.

Note that the scanner has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to WP Data Access Plugin for WordPress 5.3.8 or later.
