PHP 7.4.x < 7.4.9 Use After Free Vulnerability

low Web App Scanning Plugin ID 112607

Synopsis

PHP 7.4.x < 7.4.9 Use After Free Vulnerability

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the version of PHP running on the remote web server is 7.2.x prior to 7.2.33, 7.3.x prior to 7.3.21 or 7.4.x prior to 7.4.9. It is, therefore, affected by a use after free vulnerability in the phar_parse function due to mishandling of the actual_alias variable. An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this issue by dereferencing a freed pointer which could lead to arbitrary code execution.

Note that the scanner has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to PHP version 7.4.9 or later.
