New! Plugin Severity Now Using CVSS v3

The calculated severity for Plugins has been updated to use CVSS v3 by default. Plugins that do not have a CVSS v3 score will fall back to CVSS v2 for calculating severity. Severity display preferences can be toggled in the settings dropdown.

Synopsis

The remote print service is potentially affected by an information disclosure vulnerability.

Description

According to its banner, the version of CUPS installed on the remote host is 1.7.x prior to 1.7.5. It is, therefore, potentially affected by an information disclosure vulnerability that was incompletely corrected by the fix for CVE-2014-3537.

A flaw exists in the 'get_file' function within the file 'scheduler/client.c' regarding the handling of symlinks. This could allow a local attacker to cause normally protected files to be accessible via the web interface.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Either upgrade to CUPS version 1.7.5 or later, or apply the vendor patch.
