CentOS Linux 6 [TuxCare] Security Update: kernel / kernel-debug / kernel-debug-devel / kernel-devel / etc Multiple Vulnerabilities (CENTOS6:CLSA-2024:1724774331)

high Nessus Plugin ID 367374

Synopsis

The CentOS Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The CentOS Linux 6 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the TuxCare CENTOS6:CLSA-2024:1724774331 advisory.

- In the Linux kernel before 5.6.1, drivers/media/usb/gspca/xirlink_cit.c (aka the Xirlink camera USB driver) mishandles invalid descriptors, aka CID-a246b4d54770. (CVE-2020-11668)

- A flaw was found in the Linux kernel. A use-after-free memory flaw was found in the perf subsystem allowing a local attacker with permission to monitor perf events to corrupt memory and possibly escalate privileges. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to data confidentiality and integrity as well as system availability. (CVE-2020-14351)

- A flaw was found in the HDLC_PPP module of the Linux kernel in versions before 5.9-rc7. Memory corruption and a read overflow is caused by improper input validation in the ppp_cp_parse_cr function which can cause the system to crash or cause a denial of service. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to data confidentiality and integrity as well as system availability. (CVE-2020-25643)

- There is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel through 5.5.2 in the n_tty_receive_buf_common function in drivers/tty/n_tty.c. (CVE-2020-8648)

- A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's net/sched: sch_qfq component can be exploited to achieve local privilege escalation. When the plug qdisc is used as a class of the qfq qdisc, sending network packets triggers use-after-free in qfq_dequeue() due to the incorrect .peek handler of sch_plug and lack of error checking in agg_dequeue(). We recommend upgrading past commit 8fc134fee27f2263988ae38920bc03da416b03d8. (CVE-2023-4921)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages based on the guidance in TuxCare advisory CENTOS6:CLSA-2024:1724774331.
