FreeBSD : mod_wsgi -- race condition at process start can leak request context between requests (83f5b20f-4429-4ee1-a764-66a231ed9dab)

high Nessus Plugin ID 366758

Synopsis

The remote FreeBSD host is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of FreeBSD installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the 83f5b20f-4429-4ee1-a764-66a231ed9dab advisory.

Graham Dumpleton reports:
A race condition at process startup could let two threads be handed the same per-thread record, because records were allocated from an Apache memory pool shared by every thread without a lock.
Threads sharing a record also shared the mod_wsgi.thread_id value and, for named application groups, the same Python thread state, so one request's context (such as session data) could leak into another concurrent request. On Python 3.14 and later the shared thread state could instead crash the worker process.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the FreeBSD security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
