FreeBSD : nginx-module-cache-purge -- symlink traversal when walking cache trees (f0604004-c87b-11f1-9006-3497f65b111b)

low Nessus Plugin ID 366446

Synopsis

The remote FreeBSD host is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of FreeBSD installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the f0604004-c87b-11f1-9006-3497f65b111b advisory.

The ngx_cache_purge developers report:

Fixed a symlink traversal vulnerability during cache tree traversal.
An attacker with the ability to create symbolic links inside the cache directory could potentially cause cache purge operations to delete arbitrary files accessible to the NGINX worker process (CVE-2026-108981).

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the FreeBSD security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
