FreeBSD : rabbitmq-c -- remote client-side memory exhaustion (03302734-c15d-11f1-8561-107c611e671e)

high Nessus Plugin ID 363456

Synopsis

The remote FreeBSD host is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of FreeBSD installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the 03302734-c15d-11f1-8561-107c611e671e advisory.

The rabbitmq-c project reports:
A malicious AMQP peer can trigger memory exhaustion in rabbitmq-c clients by sending frames with unrecognised types or invalid channel numbers. The client allocates per-channel memory pools and stores complete frames before validating the channel against the negotiated limits or the frame type, and discards unknown frames without releasing that memory, allowing a sustained stream of small frames to exhaust client resources.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the FreeBSD security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
