CentOS Linux 8 [TuxCare] Security Update: bpftool / kernel / kernel-core / kernel-cross-headers / etc Multiple Vulnerabilities (CENTOS-STREAM8:CLSA-2026:1789141176)

high Nessus Plugin ID 361969

Synopsis

The CentOS Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The CentOS Linux 8 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the TuxCare CENTOS-STREAM8:CLSA-2026:1789141176 advisory.

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Propagate error from htab_lock_bucket() to userspace In __htab_map_lookup_and_delete_batch() if htab_lock_bucket() returns
-EBUSY, it will go to next bucket. Going to next bucket may not only skip the elements in current bucket silently, but also incur out-of-bound memory access or expose kernel memory to userspace if current bucket_cnt is greater than bucket_size or zero. Fixing it by stopping batch operation and returning -EBUSY when htab_lock_bucket() fails, and the application can retry or skip the busy batch as needed.
(CVE-2022-50490)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: hpsa: Fix possible memory leak in hpsa_init_one() The hpda_alloc_ctlr_info() allocates h and its field reply_map. However, in hpsa_init_one(), if alloc_percpu() failed, the hpsa_init_one() jumps to clean1 directly, which frees h and leaks the h->reply_map. Fix by calling hpda_free_ctlr_info() to release h->replay_map and h instead free h directly. (CVE-2022-50646)

- The current implementation of the prctl syscall does not issue an IBPB immediately during the syscall. The ib_prctl_set function updates the Thread Information Flags (TIFs) for the task and updates the SPEC_CTRL MSR on the function __speculation_ctrl_update, but the IBPB is only issued on the next schedule, when the TIF bits are checked. This leaves the victim vulnerable to values already injected on the BTB, prior to the prctl syscall. The patch that added the support for the conditional mitigation via prctl (ib_prctl_set) dates back to the kernel 4.9.176. We recommend upgrading past commit a664ec9158eeddd75121d39c9a0758016097fa96 (CVE-2023-0045)

- A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's IP framework for transforming packets (XFRM subsystem). This issue may allow a malicious user with CAP_NET_ADMIN privileges to cause a 4 byte out-of-bounds read of XFRMA_MTIMER_THRESH when parsing netlink attributes, leading to potential leakage of sensitive heap data to userspace. (CVE-2023-3773)

- In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fbdev: Fix invalid page access after closing deferred I/O devices When a fbdev with deferred I/O is once opened and closed, the dirty pages still remain queued in the pageref list, and eventually later those may be processed in the delayed work.
This may lead to a corruption of pages, hitting an Oops. This patch makes sure to cancel the delayed work and clean up the pageref list at closing the device for addressing the bug. A part of the cleanup code is factored out as a new helper function that is called from the common fb_release(). (CVE-2023-52731)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages based on the guidance in TuxCare advisory CENTOS-STREAM8:CLSA-2026:1789141176.
