FreeBSD : Erlang/OTP -- relative path traversal in the zip module (445e11d4-89e1-11f1-b35c-4c526214c986)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 330271

Language:

Synopsis

The remote FreeBSD host is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of FreeBSD installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the 445e11d4-89e1-11f1-b35c-4c526214c986 advisory.

The Erlang/OTP team reports:
Fixed a bug where zip:unzip/1,2 and zip:extract/1,2 were vulnerable to a relative path traversal attack. A crafted zip archive containing entry names such as ../x/y could have caused files to be written outside the intended extraction directory.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the FreeBSD security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
