FreeBSD : httpclient -- Improper Certificate Validation (de3f0385-7c37-11f1-8dc2-dca632daf43b)

low Nessus Plugin ID 326310

Synopsis

The remote FreeBSD host is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of FreeBSD installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the de3f0385-7c37-11f1-8dc2-dca632daf43b advisory.

MITRE reports:
Apache Commons HttpClient 3.x, as used in ..., does not verify that the server hostname matches a domain name in the subject's Common Name (CN) or subjectAltName field of the X.509 certificate, which allows man- in-the-middle attackers to spoof SSL servers via an arbitrary valid certificate.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the FreeBSD security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
