high Nessus Plugin ID 301719

Synopsis

Fortinet Firewall is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of FortiManager installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the FG-IR-26-098 advisory.

- A Stack-based Buffer Overflow vulnerability [CWE-121] in FortiManager fgtupdates service may allow a remote unauthenticated attacker to execute unauthorized commands via crafted requests, if the service is enabled. The success of the attack depends on the ability to bypass the stack protection mechanisms.
(CVE-2025-54820)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

For 6.4.x, see vendor advisory. For 7.2.x, upgrade to FortiManager version 7.2.11 or later. For 7.4.x, upgrade to FortiManager version 7.4.3 or later.
