NewStart CGSL MAIN 6.06 : gcc Vulnerability (NS-SA-2025-0227)

high Nessus Plugin ID 266284

Synopsis

The remote NewStart CGSL host is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The remote NewStart CGSL host, running version MAIN 6.06, has gcc packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability:

- The POWER9 backend in GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) before version 10 could optimize multiple calls of the
__builtin_darn intrinsic into a single call, thus reducing the entropy of the random number generator.
This occurred because a volatile operation was not specified. For example, within a single execution of a program, the output of every __builtin_darn() call may be the same. (CVE-2019-15847)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the vulnerable CGSL gcc packages. Note that updated packages may not be available yet. Please contact ZTE for more information.
