Fortinet Firewall is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The version of Fortigate installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the FG-IR-24-511 advisory.

 - A missing critical step in authentication vulnerability [CWE-304] in Fortinet FortiOS version 7.6.0 through 7.6.1, 7.4.0 through 7.4.5, 7.2.0 through 7.2.10, and before 7.0.16 & FortiProxy version 7.6.0 through 7.6.1, 7.4.0 through 7.4.8, 7.2.0 through 7.2.13 and before 7.0.20 allows an API-user using api- key + PKI user certificate authentication to login even if the certificate is invalid. (CVE-2024-52965)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

For 7.0.x, upgrade to Fortigate version 7.0.17 or later. For 7.2.x, upgrade to Fortigate version 7.2.11 or later. For 7.4.x, upgrade to Fortigate version 7.4.6 or later. For 7.6.x, upgrade to Fortigate version 7.6.3 or later.
