Synopsis

An instance of Nessus installed on the remote system is affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

According to its self-reported version, the Tenable Nessus application running on the remote host is prior or equal to 10.8.4. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the TNS-2025-13 advisory.

- A flaw was found in libxml2's xmlBuildQName function, where integer overflows in buffer size calculations can lead to a stack-based buffer overflow. This issue can result in memory corruption or a denial of service when processing crafted input. (CVE-2025-6021)

- numbers.c in libxslt before 1.1.43 has a use-after-free because, in nested XPath evaluations, an XPath context node can be modified but never restored. This is related to xsltNumberFormatGetValue, xsltEvalXPathPredicate, xsltEvalXPathStringNs, and xsltComputeSortResultInternal. (CVE-2025-24855)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Tenable Nessus 10.9.0 or later.
