Description

The remote SUSE Linux SLES12 / SLES_SAP12 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the SUSE-SU-2024:0915-1 advisory.

- Heap-based buffer overflow in the PackBitsPreEncode function in tif_packbits.c in bmp2tiff in libtiff 4.0.6 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service via a large width field in a BMP image. (CVE-2015-8668)

- Rejected reason: Not a Security Issue. (CVE-2023-38288)

- LibTIFF is vulnerable to an integer overflow. This flaw allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute an arbitrary code via a crafted tiff image, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow. (CVE-2023-40745)

- A vulnerability was found in libtiff due to multiple potential integer overflows in raw2tiff.c. This flaw allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly execute an arbitrary code via a crafted tiff image, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow. (CVE-2023-41175)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected libtiff-devel, libtiff5, libtiff5-32bit and / or tiff packages.
