Synopsis

The remote Slackware Linux host is missing a security update to expat.

Description

The version of expat installed on the remote host is prior to 2.6.2. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SSA:2024-073-01 advisory.

 - libexpat through 2.6.1 allows an XML Entity Expansion attack when there is isolated use of external parsers (created via XML_ExternalEntityParserCreate). (CVE-2024-28757)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the affected expat package.
