Slackware Linux 15.0 / current LibRaw Multiple Vulnerabilities (SSA:2023-295-01)

high Nessus Plugin ID 183677

Synopsis

The remote Slackware Linux host is missing a security update to LibRaw.

Description

The version of LibRaw installed on the remote host is prior to 0.20.2 / 0.21.1. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the SSA:2023-295-01 advisory.

- Buffer Overflow vulnerability in LibRaw linux/unix v0.20.0 allows attacker to escalate privileges via the LibRaw_buffer_datastream::gets(char*, int) in /src/libraw/src/libraw_datastream.cpp. (CVE-2021-32142)

- A flaw was found in LibRaw. A heap-buffer-overflow in raw2image_ex() caused by a maliciously crafted file may lead to an application crash. (CVE-2023-1729)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the affected LibRaw package.
