Synopsis

The remote Slackware Linux host is missing a security update to netatalk.

Description

The version of netatalk installed on the remote host is prior to 3.1.18. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SSA:2023-279-01 advisory.

- The combination of primitives offered by SMB and AFP in their default configuration allows the arbitrary writing of files. By exploiting these combination of primitives, an attacker can execute arbitrary code.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the affected netatalk package.
