Slackware Linux 15.0 / current mozilla-thunderbird Vulnerability (SSA:2023-212-01)

high Nessus Plugin ID 179073

Synopsis

The remote Slackware Linux host is missing a security update to mozilla-thunderbird.

Description

The version of mozilla-thunderbird installed on the remote host is prior to 102.13.1. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SSA:2023-212-01 advisory.

- Thunderbird allowed the Text Direction Override Unicode Character in filenames. An email attachment could be incorrectly shown as being a document file, while in fact it was an executable file. Newer versions of Thunderbird will strip the character and show the correct file extension. This vulnerability affects Thunderbird < 115.0.1 and Thunderbird < 102.13.1. (CVE-2023-3417)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the affected mozilla-thunderbird package.
