Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing a security update for libtiff.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 8 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the RHSA-2023:3827 advisory.

- processCropSelections in tools/tiffcrop.c in LibTIFF through 4.5.0 has a heap-based buffer overflow (e.g., WRITE of size 307203) via a crafted TIFF image. (CVE-2022-48281)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL libtiff package based on the guidance in RHSA-2023:3827.
