Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client for Windows Privilege Escalation (cisco-sa-ac-csc-privesc-wx4U4Kw)

high Nessus Plugin ID 177079

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

The version of Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client installed on the remote host is prior to 4.10.07061. It is, therefore, affected by a privilege escalation vulnerability that exists because improper permissions are assigned to a temporary directory that is created during the upgrade process. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by abusing a specific function of the Windows installer process. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute code with SYSTEM privileges.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to the relevant fixed version referenced in Cisco bug ID CSCwe00252
