medium Nessus Plugin ID 176558

Synopsis

An application running on a remote web server host is affected by a vulnerability

Description

The version of Splunk installed on the remote host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SVD-2023-0611 advisory.

- In Splunk Enterprise versions below 9.0.5, 8.2.11, and 8.1.14, and Splunk Cloud Platform versions below 9.0.2303.100, an attacker can exploit a vulnerability in the {{dump}} SPL command to cause a denial of service by crashing the Splunk daemon. (CVE-2023-32716)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

For Splunk Enterprise, upgrade to versions 9.0.5, 8.2.11, 8.1.14, and higher.
For Splunk Cloud Platform, Splunk is actively monitoring and patching affected instances.
