SUSE SLES15 / openSUSE 15 Security Update : distribution (SUSE-SU-2023:2298-1)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 176402

Language:

Synopsis

The remote SUSE host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote SUSE Linux SLES15 / SLES_SAP15 / openSUSE 15 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the SUSE-SU-2023:2298-1 advisory.

- A flaw was found in the `/v2/_catalog` endpoint in distribution/distribution, which accepts a parameter to control the maximum number of records returned (query string: `n`). This vulnerability allows a malicious user to submit an unreasonably large value for `n,` causing the allocation of a massive string array, possibly causing a denial of service through excessive use of memory. (CVE-2023-2253)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected distribution-registry package.
