Amazon Linux 2 : libgcrypt (ALAS-2022-1769)

high Nessus Plugin ID 159557

Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of libgcrypt installed on the remote host is prior to 1.5.3-14. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2022-1769 advisory.

- Libgcrypt before 1.8.8 and 1.9.x before 1.9.3 mishandles ElGamal encryption because it lacks exponent blinding to address a side-channel attack against mpi_powm, and the window size is not chosen appropriately. This, for example, affects use of ElGamal in OpenPGP. (CVE-2021-33560)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update libgcrypt' to update your system.
