F5 Networks BIG-IP : Python vulnerability (K28622040)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 157297

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

The version of F5 Networks BIG-IP installed on the remote host is prior to 14.1.4.5 / 15.1.4.1 / 16.1.2. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the K28622040 advisory.

- urllib in Python 2.x through 2.7.16 supports the local_file: scheme, which makes it easier for remote attackers to bypass protection mechanisms that blacklist file: URIs, as demonstrated by triggering a urllib.urlopen('local_file:///etc/passwd') call. (CVE-2019-9948)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to one of the non-vulnerable versions listed in the F5 Solution K28622040.
