Squid 2.x < 4.14 / 5.x < 5.0.5 (SQUID-2020:11)

high Nessus Plugin ID 148111

Synopsis

The remote proxy server is affected by an HTTP Request Smuggling vulnerability

Description

According to its banner, the version of Squid running on the remote host is 2.x prior to 4.14 or 5.x prior to 5.0.5.
It is, therefore, affected by an HTTP request smuggling vulnerability due to improper input validation. This occurs for certain uri_whitespace in configuration settings. This problem allows a trusted client to perform HTTP Request Smuggling and access services otherwise forbidden by Squid security controls.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Squid version 4.14 or 5.05 or later.
