New! Vulnerability Priority Rating (VPR)
Tenable calculates a dynamic VPR for every vulnerability. VPR combines vulnerability information with threat intelligence and machine learning algorithms to predict which vulnerabilities are most likely to be exploited in attacks. Read more about what VPR is and how it's different from CVSS.
VPR Score: 4.4
SynopsisThe remote name server is affected by a denial of service vulnerability.
DescriptionAccording to its self-reported version number, the installation of ISC BIND running on the remote name server is version 9.15.6 prior to 9.16.6 or 9.17.x prior to 9.17.4. It is, therefore, affected by a denial of service (DoS) vulnerability due to an incorrectly specified maximum buffer size. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted large TCP payload to trigger an assertion failure, causing the server to exit.
Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.
SolutionUpgrade to BIND 9.16.6, 9.17.4 or later.
