NewStart CGSL MAIN 4.05 : libtirpc Vulnerability (NS-SA-2019-0106)

high Nessus Plugin ID 127338

Synopsis

The remote machine is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The remote NewStart CGSL host, running version MAIN 4.05, has libtirpc packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability:

- It was found that due to the way rpcbind uses libtirpc (libntirpc), a memory leak can occur when parsing specially crafted XDR messages. An attacker sending thousands of messages to rpcbind could cause its memory usage to grow without bound, eventually causing it to be terminated by the OOM killer. (CVE-2017-8779)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the vulnerable CGSL libtirpc packages. Note that updated packages may not be available yet. Please contact ZTE for more information.
