In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/hugetlb: fix hugetlb_pmd_shared() Patch series "mm/hugetlb: fixes for PMD table sharing (incl. using mmu_gather)", v3. One functional fix, one performance regression fix, and two related comment fixes. I cleaned up my prototype I recently shared [1] for the performance fix, deferring most of the cleanups I had in the prototype to a later point. While doing that I identified the other things. The goal of this patch set is to be backported to stable trees "fairly" easily. At least patch #1 and #4. Patch #1 fixes hugetlb_pmd_shared() not detecting any sharing Patch #2 + #3 are simple comment fixes that patch #4 interacts with. Patch #4 is a fix for the reported performance regression due to excessive IPI broadcasts during fork()+exit(). The last patch is all about TLB flushes, IPIs and mmu_gather. Read: complicated There are plenty of cleanups in the future to be had + one reasonable optimization on x86. But that's all out of scope for this series. Runtime tested, with a focus on fixing the performance regression using the original reproducer [2] on x86. This patch (of 4): We switched from (wrongly) using the page count to an independent shared count. Now, shared page tables have a refcount of 1 (excluding speculative references) and instead use ptdesc->pt_share_count to identify sharing. We didn't convert hugetlb_pmd_shared(), so right now, we would never detect a shared PMD table as such, because sharing/unsharing no longer touches the refcount of a PMD table. Page migration, like mbind() or migrate_pages() would allow for migrating folios mapped into such shared PMD tables, even though the folios are not exclusive. In smaps we would account them as "private" although they are "shared", and we would be wrongly setting the PM_MMAP_EXCLUSIVE in the pagemap interface. Fix it by properly using ptdesc_pmd_is_shared() in hugetlb_pmd_shared().

  - In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: netfilter: nf_tables: fix use-after-     free in nf_tables_addchain() nf_tables_addchain() publishes the chain to table->chains via     list_add_tail_rcu() (in nft_chain_add()) before registering hooks. If nf_tables_register_hook() then     fails, the error path calls nft_chain_del() (list_del_rcu()) followed by nf_tables_chain_destroy() with no     RCU grace period in between. This creates two use-after-free conditions: 1) Control-plane:
    nf_tables_dump_chains() traverses table->chains under rcu_read_lock(). A concurrent dump can still be     walking the chain when the error path frees it. 2) Packet path: for NFPROTO_INET, nf_register_net_hook()     briefly installs the IPv4 hook before IPv6 registration fails. Packets entering nft_do_chain() via the     transient IPv4 hook can still be dereferencing chain->blob_gen_X when the error path frees the chain. Add     synchronize_rcu() between nft_chain_del() and the chain destroy so that all RCU readers -- both dump     threads and in-flight packet evaluation -- have finished before the chain is freed.     Upon the exit of autofs_wait(), wait_ctr is decremented to 1. Then the unmounting process begins: kill_sb     calls autofs_catatonic_mode(), which should have freed the waitqueues, but it only decrements its usage     counter to zero which is not a correct behaviour. edit:imk This description is of course not correct. The     umount performed as a result of an expire is a umount of a mount that has been automounted, it's not the     autofs mount itself. They happen independently, usually after everything mounted within the autofs file     system has been expired away. If everything hasn't been expired away the automount daemon can still exit     leaving mounts in place. But expires done in both cases will result in a notification that calls     autofs_wait_release() with a result status. The problem case is the summary execution of of the automount     daemon. In this case any waiting processes won't be woken up until either they are terminated or the mount     is umounted. end edit: imk So in catatonic mode we should free waitqueues which counter becomes zero.
    edit: imk Initially I was concerned that the calling of autofs_wait_release() and autofs_catatonic_mode()     was not mutually exclusive but that can't be the case (obviously) because the queue entry (or entries) is     removed from the list when either of these two functions are called.     In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bus: fsl-mc: fix use-after-free in     driver_override_show() The driver_override_show() function reads the driver_override string without     holding the device_lock. However, driver_override_store() uses driver_set_override(), which modifies and     frees the string while holding the device_lock. This can result in a concurrent use-after-free if the     string is freed by the store function while being read by the show function.   - mm/hugetlb: fix hugetlb_pmd_shared() Patch series mm/hugetlb: fixes for PMD table sharing (incl. using     mmu_gather), v3. One functional fix, one performance regression fix, and two related comment fixes. I     cleaned up my prototype I recently shared [1] for the performance fix, deferring most of the cleanups I     had in the prototype to a later point. While doing that I identified the other things. The goal of this     patch set is to be backported to stable trees fairly easily. At least patch #1 and #4. Patch #1 fixes     hugetlb_pmd_shared() not detecting any sharing Patch #2 + #3 are simple comment fixes that patch #4     interacts with. Patch #4 is a fix for the reported performance regression due to excessive IPI broadcasts     during fork()+exit(). The last patch is all about TLB flushes, IPIs and mmu_gather. Read: complicated     There are plenty of cleanups in the future to be had + one reasonable optimization on x86. But that's all     out of scope for this series. Runtime tested, with a focus on fixing the performance regression using the     original reproducer [2] on x86. This patch (of 4): We switched from (wrongly) using the page count to an     independent shared count. Now, shared page tables have a refcount of 1 (excluding speculative references)     and instead use ptdesc->pt_share_count to identify sharing. We didn't convert hugetlb_pmd_shared(), so     right now, we would never detect a shared PMD table as such, because sharing/unsharing no longer touches     the refcount of a PMD table. Page migration, like mbind() or migrate_pages() would allow for migrating     folios mapped into such shared PMD tables, even though the folios are not exclusive. In smaps we would     account them as private although they are shared, and we would be wrongly setting the     PM_MMAP_EXCLUSIVE in the pagemap interface. Fix it by properly using ptdesc_pmd_is_shared() in     hugetlb_pmd_shared(). (CVE-2026-23100)
