dict.c in libxml2 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap-based buffer over-read and application crash) via an unexpected character immediately after the "<!DOCTYPE html" substring in a crafted HTML document.

According to its self-reported version, the Nessus Network Monitor running on the remote host is prior to 6.2.2. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the TNS-2023-23 advisory. Several of the third-party components were found to contain vulnerabilities, and updated versions have been made available by the providers. Out of caution and in line with best practice, Tenable has opted to upgrade these components to address the potential impact of the issues. Nessus Network Monitor 6.2.2 updates the following components:

  - c-ares from version 1.10.0 to version 1.19.1.
  - curl from version 7.79.1 to version 8.1.2.

  - OpenSSL from version 3.0.8 to version 3.0.9.

According to the versions of the libxml2 packages installed, the EulerOS Virtualization installation on the remote host is affected by the following vulnerabilities :

  - The xmlBufAttrSerializeTxtContent function in xmlsave.c     in libxml2 allows context-dependent attackers to cause     a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and application     crash) via a non-UTF-8 attribute value, related to     serialization. NOTE: this vulnerability may be a     duplicate of CVE-2016-3627.(CVE-2016-4483)

  - xmlParseBalancedChunkMemoryRecover in parser.c in     libxml2 before 2.9.10 has a memory leak related to     newDoc->oldNs.(CVE-2019-19956)

  - dict.c in libxml2 allows remote attackers to cause a     denial of service (heap-based buffer over-read and     application crash) via an unexpected character     immediately after the '<!DOCTYPE html' substring in a     crafted HTML document.(CVE-2015-8806)

  - ** DISPUTED ** libxml2 2.9.4, when used in recover     mode, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of     service (NULL pointer dereference) via a crafted XML     document. NOTE: The maintainer states 'I would disagree     of a CVE with the Recover parsing option which should     only be used for manual recovery at least for XML     parser.'(CVE-2017-5969)

The function     xmlSnprintfElementContent in valid.c is supposed to     recursively dump the element content definition into a     char buffer 'buf' of size 'size'. At the end of the     routine, the function may strcat two more characters     without checking whether the current strlen(buf) + 2 <     size. This vulnerability causes programs that use     libxml2, such as PHP, to crash.(CVE-2017-9048)

  - libxml2 20904-GITv2.9.4-16-g0741801 is vulnerable to a     heap-based buffer over-read in the     xmlDictComputeFastKey function in dict.c. This     vulnerability causes programs that use libxml2, such as     PHP, to crash. This vulnerability exists because of an     incomplete fix for libxml2 Bug 759398.(CVE-2017-9049)

  - libxml2 20904-GITv2.9.4-16-g0741801 is vulnerable to a     heap-based buffer over-read in the xmlDictAddString     function in dict.c. This vulnerability causes programs     that use libxml2, such as PHP, to crash. This     vulnerability exists because of an incomplete fix for     CVE-2016-1839.(CVE-2017-9050)

  - The xz_decomp function in xzlib.c in libxml2 2.9.8, if
    --with-lzma is used, allows remote attackers to cause a     denial of service (infinite loop) via a crafted XML     file that triggers LZMA_MEMLIMIT_ERROR, as demonstrated     by xmllint, a different vulnerability than     CVE-2015-8035.(CVE-2018-9251)

  - libxml2 2.9.8, if --with-lzma is used, allows remote     attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop)     via a crafted XML file that triggers     LZMA_MEMLIMIT_ERROR, as demonstrated by xmllint, a     different vulnerability than CVE-2015-8035 and     CVE-2018-9251.(CVE-2018-14567)

It was discovered that libxml2 would load certain XML external entities. If a user or automated system were tricked into opening a specially crafted document, an attacker could possibly obtain access to arbitrary files or cause resource consumption. (CVE-2016-4449)
