OpenSSH < 4.7 Trusted X11 Cookie Connection Policy Bypass

High Nessus Network Monitor Plugin ID 4209

Synopsis

The remote host is vulnerable to a local 'privilege escalation' flaw.

Description

The remote host is running a version of OpenSSH that is vulnerable to a flaw in the way that it handles local X11 cookies. It is alleged that an attacker exploiting this flaw would be able to execute SSH commands for which they are not authorized.

Note: PVS has solely relied on the banner of the SSH client to perform this check. Any backported patches or workarounds such as recompiling or edited configurations are not observable through the banner.

Solution

Upgrade to version 4.7 or higher.
