Juniper Junos VPLS Ethernet Frame MAC Address Remote DoS (JSA10750)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 92518
New! Plugin Severity Now Using CVSS v3

The calculated severity for Plugins has been updated to use CVSS v3 by default. Plugins that do not have a CVSS v3 score will fall back to CVSS v2 for calculating severity. Severity display preferences can be toggled in the settings dropdown.

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

According to its self-reported version number and configuration, the remote Juniper Junos device is affected by a denial of service vulnerability when VPLS routing-instances are configured. An unauthenticated, adjacent attacker can exploit this, via Ethernet frames with the EtherType field of IPv6 (0x86DD), to cause a denial of service condition.

Solution

Upgrade to the relevant Junos software release referenced in Juniper advisory JSA10750. Alternatively, if EtherType IPv6 MAC addresses are not required, configure a VPLS flood filter.
