medium Nessus Plugin ID 85963
New! Vulnerability Priority Rating (VPR)

Tenable calculates a dynamic VPR for every vulnerability. VPR combines vulnerability information with threat intelligence and machine learning algorithms to predict which vulnerabilities are most likely to be exploited in attacks. Read more about what VPR is and how it is different from CVSS.

VPR Score: 3.6

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

GNU C Library (aka glibc) before 2.20 allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and crash) via a multibyte character value of '0xffff' to the iconv function when converting (1) IBM933, (2) IBM935, (3) IBM937, (4) IBM939, or (5) IBM1364 encoded data to UTF-8.

Solution

Upgrade to one of the non-vulnerable versions listed in the F5 Solution SOL16435.
