Ubuntu 12.04 LTS / 14.04 LTS / 14.10 : devscripts vulnerability (USN-2649-1)

Medium Nessus Plugin ID 84229

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

It was discovered that the uupdate tool incorrectly handled symlinks.
If a user or automated system were tricked into processing specially crafted files, a remote attacker could possibly replace arbitrary files, leading to a privilege escalation.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Update the affected devscripts package.
