OpenSSH SSHFP Record Verification Weakness

medium Nessus Plugin ID 78655
New! Plugin Severity Now Using CVSS v3

The calculated severity for Plugins has been updated to use CVSS v3 by default. Plugins that do not have a CVSS v3 score will fall back to CVSS v2 for calculating severity. Severity display preferences can be toggled in the settings dropdown.

A secure shell client on the remote host could be used to bypass host verification methods.

According to its banner, the version of OpenSSH running on the remote host is 6.1 through 6.6.

It is, therefore, affected by a host verification bypass vulnerability related to SSHFP and certificates that could allow a malicious SSH server to cause the supplied client to inappropriately trust the server.

Update to OpenSSH version 6.7 or later or apply the vendor patch.
