Ubuntu 8.04 LTS / 10.04 LTS : ghostscript vulnerability (USN-1581-1)

Medium Nessus Plugin ID 62290

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

Marc Schonefeld discovered that Ghostscript did not correctly handle certain image files. If a user or automated system were tricked into opening a specially crafted file, an attacker could cause a denial of service and possibly execute arbitrary code with user privileges.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Update the affected libgs8 package.
