Liferay Portal 6.1.0 Forward Target Handling Security Bypass

critical Nessus Plugin ID 59359
New! Plugin Severity Now Using CVSS v3

The calculated severity for Plugins has been updated to use CVSS v3 by default. Plugins that do not have a CVSS v3 score will fall back to CVSS v2 for calculating severity. Severity display preferences can be toggled in the settings dropdown.

The remote web server contains a Java application that is affected by a security bypass vulnerability.

The version of Liferay Portal hosted on the remote web server contains a flaw in the 'PortletRequestDispatcherImpl' class's 'dispatch' method that allows a remote, unauthenticated attacker to create new administrative users. Since administrative users can install new plugins and extensions, this may lead to arbitrary code execution.

Note that this plugin only runs when the 'Perform thorough tests' setting is enabled and 'safe checks' are disabled.

Update to the newest version in Git or 6.2.0 when it becomes available.
