SynopsisThe remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.
DescriptionBrian Gorenc discovered that Samba incorrectly calculated array bounds when handling remote procedure calls (RPC) over the network. A remote, unauthenticated attacker could exploit this to execute arbitrary code as the root user. (CVE-2012-1182).
Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.
SolutionUpdate the affected samba package.
